AVOIDING JANUARY BLUES IN COLCHESTER

The festive season is over, leaving only cold weather behind. Many experience sadness during this time of the year, so here are things to do to avoid this! By Emily Carley.

Number 1- Colchester zoo! This is an entertaining, educational day out for all ages. Full of activities from riding the lost Madagascar road train to hand feeding goats, sheep, giraffes and lorikeets. Children can be occupied at the Jungle Tumble indoor soft play complex. Colchester Zoo has also recognised the common January blues and reduced their prices! During weekdays in January, children aged under 3 years old enter for free and all age above enter for only £10.They also offer annual zoo passes for animal lovers at only £70.50 for adults!

Number 2- Historic walking tour of Colchester! This walk reveals the hidden gems of Britain's first and newest city. You will be joined with a friendly guide, learning stories of conquest, destruction and rebuilding. Not only perfect for history lovers, but for anyone interested in the beauties of Colchester. This tour also covers the visit of several historical landmarks. With a fantastic price. A £40 minimum charge (covering up to 4 people) and an additional charge of £12 for any guests! Children are also welcome as the tour is stroller accessible, meaning children can also enjoy this incredibly educational tour!

Number 3- Beth Chatto's plants and gardens! Although not directly located in Colchester, it is in close proximity. With 7.5 acres of beautiful gardens, based on ecological planting, a beautiful place for a walk.

Number 4- Mercury Theatre! You can watch shows and events featuring music, comedy, theatre and more… You can also join classes to learn new things and join a community!
