God’s Own Junkyard: An Explosion of Neon!

Yep, you read that right! God’s Own Junkyard is a free, permanent neon exhibition that lies just on the outskirts of Wood Street, London. It provides visitors with an opportunity to view the fantastically festooned warehouse, whilst allowing them to buy some neon lights for themselves. This retro and vintage styled warehouse will have you boogieing all the way back to the 1950s...

For many years, Walthamstow was known as a mundane district of gray streets and dull flats on the Northeast cusp of London. Now, more recently, the city’s gentrification has brought a wave of young creatives and wondrous hipsters into the neighbourhood. These two faces of Walthamstow merge together in the neon mist of God’s Own Junkyard.

The story surrounding God’s Own Junkyard is a fascinating one. The current owner- Chris Bracey, the ‘Neon Man’, was discovered by Hollywood themselves many years ago as he began fashioning props for renowned directors including Christopher Nolan and Tim Burton. His work and dedication is clearly reflected in the shiny panes of glowing neon.

As soon as you step inside, you're sure to be hit by a wave of nostalgia. You could easily spend hours peeking and prying at the bright artwork on offer. Luckily, if you ever get peckish, God’s Own Junkyard operate its own on-site café: The Rolling Stones.

However, it isn’t just former film props that you’ll find adorned around the place. Religious statues, disco balls, and retro signs embellish the walls.

Frequent visitor Marcus Sheppard claims that “The atmosphere here is great! A bit of cake, a nice cuppa and some amazing displays- What more could you want?”

Just a short 12-minute walk from Walthamstow Central Station, why not come down and join the ‘Neon Man’ himself in this vibrant paradise? Nostalgia awaits you...
