Step through the Magic Portal into another world, brought to life by our talented actors, all in a beautiful outdoor setting in Colchester, Essex.

You’ll meet our hero the Captain, Arabella the warrior princess, unicorns, Merlin the Wizard, Tatiana the Queen of the Fairies, Gurt the Lord of the Goblins, Zephyr and Zeta the Dragons.

Throughout the day there are puzzles and riddles to solve, storytelling sessions, unique interactions, engaging quests with all the characters and not one screen in sight.

As well as lots of exciting adventure activities to experience such as climbing frames, go karts and a jumping pillow.

Call of the Wild Zoo

Looking for something to do to entertain the kids?

Why not come and visit Call of the Wild Zoo in South Woodham Ferrers, Essex which is home to over 100 species of 400 animals.

Here at Call of the Wild Zoo we are helping to protect the future of critically endangered species after welcoming our first baby ring- tailed lemur pup this spring, come meet Baby Marli and the rest of the Lemur family this half term and learn more about our conservation efforts from our dedicated keeper team with our interactive meet and greet animal encounters that run at intervals throughout the day.

We are opened daily from 9.30 am- 5pm , tickets can be pre -booked online via our website or can be brought on the door.

About the reserve - Fingringhoe Wick has a long history, with evidence of Roman occupation.  For many years the area was farmed before being sold for sand and gravel extraction.  From the early 1900’s to the end of the 1950s the site as a busy industrial area, mining the sand and gravel to be taken by river to London.  You can still see evidence of this industrial past around the reserve.

When Essex Wildlife Trust bought the site, it was a barren lunar landscape and some very dedicated people set about changing and developing it into the wonderful mosaic of different habitats we see today: grassland, gorse heathland, reedbeds, ponds, meadows, scrub.

The nature reserve is now a SSSI (Site Special Scientific Interest), a wildlife haven of over 200 acres (80 hectares) hosting up to 200 species of birds, 27 species of dragonflies and damselflies, 24 species of butterfly, 350 species of flowering plants, as well as adders, badgers and many other animals.

Fingringhoe Wick is one of the finest nature reserves in the county with something for everyone at all times of year from families, organised wildlife groups, expert birdwatches to enthusiastic beginners, school parties and walkers.
