Bures has a highly regarded C of E Primary School.

For the commuter, Bures offers a branch line rail service to London Liverpool Street via Marks Tey or there is mainline rail service from Colchester or Marks Tey taking approximately 50 minutes from the latter. There are also frequent buses running to Colchester, Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds.
