ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)(a) THE A12 TRUNK ROAD (JUNCTION 29, ESSEX TO JUNCTION 33, SUFFOLK)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the A12 Trunk Road in the Counties of Essex and Suffolk to enable carriageway resurfacing, technology works, routine maintenance and all other associated works to be carried out in safety. The works, the majority of which would take place overnight (9pm-5am) are expected to last for approximately 4 weeks, starting on, or after, Monday 6 August 2018. The works would be carried out in phases using carriageway and slip road closures, a temporary mandatory speed limit would be in force at times in the interest of safety. Several weekend closures of the northbound and southbound carriageway and adjoining slip roads would be required starting on Friday 10 August (Friday 9pm to Monday 6am). The effect of the Order would be to -
1. impose a 40 or 50 miles per hour speed limit on the A12 -
northbound carriageway from 850 metres west of the exit slip road at J29 to the entry slip road at J32A,
southbound carriageway from 850 metres north of the entry slip road at Junction 32B to the exit slip road at J32A,
northbound entry slip road at J29, and
northbound entry slip road leading from Turnpike close, north of J29

2. Close the-

northbound carriageway between J29 and J31 - Diverting traffic to exit at J29 then via A1232 Ipswich Road, A133 St Andrews Avenue, A137 to A14 J56, then westbound to A12 J33 and continue their journey,
southbound carriageway between J33 and J29 - Diverting traffic eastbound A14 J56 then via A137, A133 St Andrews Avenue,
A1232 Ipswich Road to A12 J29 and continue their journey,
northbound entry slip road at J29,

northbound exit slip road at J30,

southbound exit and entry slip roads at J32B and J32A,

southbound dedicated link road between J32B and J32A,

southbound entry slip road at J30, and

southbound exit slip road at J29.

During slip road closures traffic wishing to enter or leave the A12 would be diverted on or off the trunk road at the nearest open slip road and return to the original junction via the opposite carriageway in order to continue their journey.
All lay-bys adjacent to the lengths of A12 described at 2 above would be closed for 24 hours daily for the duration of the works. Access to and from the A12 from some side roads would be restricted at times during the works, access to property would be maintained at all times and pedestrians would be escorted through the works. The temporary mandatory speed limits (which would not apply to emergency service or special force vehicles), closures (which would not apply to emergency service or works vehicles) and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works. The Order would come into force on 6 August 2018 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months or until the works detailed above have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
