Eric Dean was always Uncle Eric to me, though the husband of my wonderful cousin Jean.

He was the most decent man I've known, always in good humour, and ready to trade funny stories with my Dad, when they worked together and after they retired, often about odd things that happened in World War II. Eric was a tank driver from D-Day onwards, and spoke little about that, but when his sons Robert and Mark arranged for him later in life to drive tanks again at Bobbington Tank Museum, he enjoyed the experience. I remember his patience with his sons and I was infinite when we would sing popular songs repeatedly on long car trips.

Jean and Eric were not only part of our family, but also the best friends of my parents Jack and Eileen, and often visited each other for a cup of tea and a chat.

The picture of Eric attached shows him at the time of his marriage to Jean.

The sympathies of my wife Christine and I are with Robert and Mark and the Dean family at this time.
