Gravesend & Northfleet booked a place in the next round of the FA Umbro Trophy with a 2-0 victory at against Chelmsford Cityat Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

The scoreline certainly did not flatter the Fleet, who dominated for almost of the 90 minutes.

Jimmy Jackson and Elliot Martin provided the Fleet strikers with a constant stream of crosses throughout the game and ought, perhaps, to have made more use of them.

A mazy run from Che Stadhart set up Craig Wilkins in the 16th minute, but his shot was saved by City keeper Richard Hurst.

But 15 minutes later Wilkins had better luck when he put the Fleet in front, heading home Martin's pinpoint centre.

Fleet netted their second and match-clinching goal in the 67th minute.

Jackson fed the ball to Darren Smith, who saw his shot parried by Hurst, but the ball ran loose and Stadhart quickest to net the rebound.

City substitute Ian Cous-ins was sent off for a foul on Jackson in the build up to the goal and the Fleet skipper had to be stretch-ered off after the goal celebrations.

Fleet's reward is a trip to to Cinderford in round two on December 1.
