Taman shows her class

10:33am Tuesday 2nd January 2001

A group of students from the Dartford-based Kam Bains School of Martial Arts took part in an event in Edmonton.

First on were the junior tag teams. Representing Dartford were the Wolvereens, consisting of Taman Lally, Kerry Lawrence and Scott Fisher.

Taman, one of instructor Kam Bains youngest cousins who had also competed in the former Kick-It 2000 Champion-ships, came joint second with fellow student, David Hancock in their team pattern.

She then went on to the sparring section - dominating her fight and showed the crowd that she definitely had the family sparring streak in her.

Finally, came the breaking section in which Taman came away with a two-point victory, putting her team in the lead. Next up was Kerry Lawrence, the newest member of the school and competing in a tournament for the first time.

Kerry handled herself very well, overcoming her nerves to come second. Unfortunately, with Scott Fisher not managing to complete his break, the Wolvereens missed out on gold by just one point.

David Hancock, who had to spar adults ranging from green to black belts, did very well by completing all his breaks and sparred gracefully against higher grades, taking his team of five members to the bronze medal position.

The school is now on building up its Gravesend club. Classes started three weeks ago and for more information, call Sammi on 07947 486157 or email on KBSOMA@aol.com
