It was Colchester Borough Council that won the fight not the campaigners. Fair's fair! Also, to follow Steve's post, we need to realise that not everybody values our heritage. All the more reason for those that do to stand up and be counted.

This whole bus lane idea is stupid, and as a result I am boycotting spending in town until this experiment is over, the only people that have the power to stop this is the retailers, and if they moan loudly about their profits then something will have to happen!
Today, for example, I usually meet with several old friends on a Monday for lunch, instead of popping into town (a couple of them usually drive in), we decided to meet else-where, and as a result the town lost out on a potential spend and instead the £108.67 was spent in Witham.
On the way back I had to detour and cause a hold-up in East Hill turning round to get to Priory Street - sorry about the delay guys, but you see what these idiotic ideas cause.
Tomorrow, I shall be going out of town again, instead of staying local and will try the war-memorial as a turning spot, like I saw several other people doing!
So, what's basically happened is the bus-lane has introduced more traffic and pollution as I wouldn't have otherwise been driving in or out of town!
Oh, and if you're worried about pollution, then get your **** busses serviced properly! You should have seen the black soot coming out of one that I was following down the high-street earlier! But then again the bus looked older than time itself!

Money is an addiction Boris, when you have some you want more and when you loose it (squander it) you have the overwhelming need to recouparate it.
If they pull this off it will be bust within 2 years and a change of use to a shopping facility will be proposed so that the site doesn't become a deralict eyesore.

Colchester really needs this I hope it gets the go ahead, but to be honest I think the money would be better off spent on a new out of town shopping centre a bit like Lakeside or Bluewater. If you want a Lakeside or Bluewater, then campaign for the Horkesley Park project to be approved. That project is designed to fail to meet its stated targets. The owners will remedy this failure by applying for, and getting, permission to extend the retail elements of their so-called country park. Over a period of perhaps six or seven years it will morph into a new Lakeside.
