The Eastern region's first-ever schools rugby league tournament is being held at Colchester Rugby Club tomorrow.

The Collier and Catchpole sponsored-tournament is for year nine students has been organised by Ipswich Rhinos captain and assistant coach Peter LeMarquand.

Students attending the competition will be able to take part in training sessions after half term with a view to selecting an Eastern RL junior Rhinos team to play friendly games against other Rugby League Conference youth sides.

Ipswich Rhinos chairman Kevin Cook said: "When I was first involved with the Rhinos the core of the team were university students or in their early 20s.

"Now five years on they are qualified teachers and coaches and are giving something back into the game through coaching in their own schools and encouraging others to do the same."

For more about coaching rugby in schools or about the junior training sessions, contact either LeMarquand or Cook via the Eastern Rugby League website at www.easternrl.co.uk.
