The Colchester Blackwater School Sports Partnership Inter Tennis Competition has been declared an outstanding success by all involved.

The tournament saw the boys compete to be crowned interschool champions.

The tournament, which was being held at Colchester Tennis Centre in Shrub End, had a good turn out of local schools and was an overall triumph, with Colchester Royal Grammar School topping the boy's competition by winning the years seven, eight and nine draw, as well as the years ten and 11 draw.

The competition saw some excellent tennis being played by both the boys and the girls, and was seen by many participants as not only a sporting competition but as a learning experience.

Peter Richmond, Tennis Development Officer at Colchester Tennis Centre said: "It's been a good opportunity for young people to focus on tennis, the tournament as a whole has been a success with everyone enjoying the two days."

He added: "This is a good starting point for us to continue on with, hopefully next year more schools will compete and the tournament will become a large annual event, raising the profile of tennis in Colchester."

George Shepheard, the Year Seven, Eight and Nine winner from Colchester Royal Grammar School, said: "It was a great day for me, and I was really pleased to come through a few tough matches to win."
