Frinton make a fine start

The Goody's Colchester and District Tennis League has got underway and in the Ladies Premier Division Frinton A have made an excellent start.

Following on from beating their B team 8-l twice, they played last season's champions, The Essex A, away and won 5-4 with Jill Felstead and Anita Todd winning all their three sets for the loss of only four games.

Also in the Ladies Premier Division, last year's runners-up, Lexden Hill, won 5-3 against Lexden Squash A with the match resting on the final set between Lexden Hill's Karen Capon and Zuzanne Kent versus Joan Hassell and Jill Crown.

This went to a tie-break which Lexden Hill won to claim the match.

The Essex A started their defence of the men's title with a 9-0 defeat of the homeless West End A.

West End B also lost, but only 5-4, to Kirby C in Division Four.

The Essex A are also looking strong in the Mixed Premier Division, defeating Lexden Squash A, 7-2.

Opposition may come from Kirby, who started with a 7-2 victory over Dedham A.

In division one, West End A beat Wivenhoe 6-3 who also lost 5-4 to Lexden Hill A despite the efforts of Pat Jex and Jamie Bird, who won all their three sets.
