THE Essex A's Ladies and Mixed teams are keen to continue their dominance in this season's Stringers World Colchester and District Tennis League.

The Ladies A team defeated Lexden Hill 9-0 while the Mixed A team saw off the B team 9-0, although there were a number of closely-fought sets.

The club's A and B teams also met in the Ladies Premier Division, at the Lexden Rackets and Fitness Club.

The B team almost pulled off a surprise victory but a tie-break set won by Liz Empson and Louise Killick secured a 5-4 win for the A team.

In division one, Dedham A, who have just missed out on promotion the last two seasons, started with a convincing 7-2 victory at Kirby A.

Chris Jones and Ginny Scott won all three sets in Wivenhoe A's 6-3 triumph against Spring Lane A, in division two.

In the same division, the Essex C defeated Lexden Rackets and Fitness Club D, 8-1.

Newcomers David Lloyd B were victorious in their first match after defeating Wivenhoe B, 6-3.

Dedham A look like they may struggle in the Men's Premier Division, losing 8-1 to Frinton A.

Kirby A defeated Spring Lane A 6-3 in division one.

Tony Sharman and Graham Quinton won all their sets for Frinton B but it was not enough to stop their side losing 5-4 to Dedham B, in division two.

In the same division, Wivenhoe B beat Spring Lane B 6-3.

Promoted David Lloyd A dropped only a few games in a comprehensive 9-0 victory over Lexden Rackets and Fitness Club C, in division four.

Dedham A's return to the Mixed Premier Division was difficult and they went down 8-1 at Frinton A.

Rob Twyman and Gillian Sandstrom did not drop a game as Lexden Rackets and Fitness Club A beat Kirby A 7-2 in division one.

Fiona Crave and Steve Baines look a strong pairing for The Essex C, winning all their sets in their side's 6-3 division two victory against Colchester Officers Club B.

The division three encounter between Kirby B and Little Clacton ended in a draw.

In division four, David Lloyd A won 9-0 against Spring Lane C but were beaten 5-4 by Wivenhoe B and 6-3 by West Mersea, for whom Karen Capon and Chris Frost were in excellent form.

Kirby C have had a testing start to the division five season, losing 8-1 to David Lloyd B and 7-2 to Lexden Rackets and Fitness Club C.
