WIVENHOE Tennis Club held its annual tournament finals day, in unusually warm weather conditions.

A number of very close and hard-fought matches took place, with two players standing out.

Simon Reeves retained his three titles, despite being pushed hard all day and junior player Sam Dewey won the important junior events.

The 16-year-old also produced a tremendous battle in the men’s singles, losing out to Reeves in a very close and well-contested match.

Wivenhoe TC coach and tournament referee Jamie Champion praised the high standard of play throughout the day and said that the wide range of possibilities to compete will only help to assist the club in its future development.

He was also full of praise for the junior players and identified the junior singles final as ‘a bit special'.

The final result went to a Championship tie-break which Dewey won 13-11, before going on to contest the doubles and men's singles.

Wivenhoe TC continue to attract new members and throughout the winter will gain more with newcomers joining into the friendly winter play.

Champion, amongst many other sessions, also holds an increasingly popular Thursday evening session for beginners/improvers.
