Bobby to turn on style for charity

4:42pm Thursday 3rd July 2008

Sporting icon Bobby George is set to turn on the style in an event to raise cash for charities in Tendring.

The darts ace is appearing at Clacton's Aldersgate Club next week and is sure to pull in the fans.

George, who lives at Ardleigh in the 18-room George Hall that he built himself, has pledged his considerable talents to helping to raise money for the Tendring District Council (TDC) Chairman's charities.

He will be hosting the event and all the proceeds will be going to the West Cliff Theatre, the Princes Theatre Youth Trust, Shopmobility and local pre-schools. George had originally been due to appear at a darts fun night at Clacton Princes Theatre on April 21.

However, the event had to be cancelled through no fault of the star and he generously agreed to appear at a later date. There will be a chance for 12 local players to take him on at the oche during a fun evening at the club in Carnarvon Road next Friday, starting at 7pm.

George is probably the best player never to have won the World Professional Darts Championship but lifted a whole host of trophies during a truly glittering career.

He was runner-up in two World Professional Darts Championships and represented his country 26 times.

Tickets - priced £5 per adult - will be available from the Aldersgate Club in advance or can be paid on the door on the night. Each paying adult can take up to two children in free.

Everyone buying a ticket will be entered in a draw with the prize to play George on the night.
