Colchester Rugby Club head coach Tim Grimsey had mixed feelings about the split performance he saw from his players either side of the break in their 43-10 win against Braintree.
It was a winning start to Colchester’s London League division one north campaign, but a solid second-half display of attacking rugby was tempered by a fractured performance in the opening 40 minutes in Grimsey’s mind.
He said: “In the first half, our play was uglier than Freddie Krueger, but in the second half we were more frightening than Freddie Krueger.
“We didn’t offer anything in attack first half apart from a couple of times, but every time we got the ball in the second half, it seemed a case of ‘where shall we score now’.”
