The all-conquering Colchester Royal Grammar School under-14s rugby machine just keeps motoring on.
Having won the Essex Schools Cup at under-13 level, the team kept their stunning run of success going by defending their title at under-14 level with a 34-0 final win against Robert Clack School from Dagenham.
It was the icing on the cake for the CRGS side, that emerged unbeaten through five group games, a quarter-final and a semi-final to take the ultimate honours.
Ironically, the win in the final came against one of the only sides to have held CRGS this year and fly-half Ben Stanton said: “It was sweet revenge to beat them as they beat us early on in the season.”
Second rower Louis Blaxill added: “It has been a big effort from everyone.
“We had a lot of injuries early on in the season and had people coming in, but they all raised their game and we had a strong squad with strength on the bench as well.”
PE tecaher Nick Murray said: “Robert Clack presented a physical challenge, but we felt we had the capability to win if we played to our potential.
“In the last three games in the competition we have scored 140 points and conceded just five – and we were a bit annoyed with the five we did concede.
“They are a strong year group and we have a strong squad as opposed to a strong team, which has kept competition for places high.”
