COLCHESTER secured their second win in the National Leagues against visiting Bracknell.

The Mill Road side edged a tight Division Three London and South East encounter 24-21.

The visitors opened the scoring after earning a scrum, ten metres out, and moved the ball right for their number eight to score a converted try in the corner.

David Higgins then reduced the deficit for Colchester slotting a penalty to bring the score to 7-3.

Bracknell replied when their fly-half burst through Colchester’s defences and scored a try under the posts which he converted.

Higgins, though, kept Colchester in touch with another penalty kick to make the score 14-6 at half-time.

Playing with the wind in the second half enabled Colchester’s Higgins to kick some long range balls and keep the visitors pinned back in their own half.

From a line-out lineout, prop James Mitchell drove forward, fed Damien Brambley who made ground before offloading to flanker Danny Whiteman who scored an unconverted try.

Shortly after another successful Higgins penalty levelled the scores at 14-14.

Colchester then took the lead when scrum- half Brett Cutbush threw a long pass to number eight Harrison Pickett.

He fed Jaid Wiltshire who went over for a try to go 19-14 in front.

Bracknell retook the lead, however, with a converted try.

With ten minutes to go, Wiltshire secured the win for Colchester when he chased down his own grubber kick and scored a converted try in the corner for a 24-21 win.
