IT has not just been success for Colchester’s title and promotion winning first team this season.

Their seconds, thirds and fourths all took the titles in their respective leagues.

The seconds, who were the top side in Eastern Counties division two south, now face a play-off against Diss seconds, the winners of division two north, for promotion to division one.

The match will take place at Mill Road on Saturday at 3pm.

Head coach Anthony O’Riordan said: “The ethos of the coaching team is that we are one club.

“It would be easy to focus on 25 guys as the first team and forget about the rest but that is not what we are trying to build.

“You wouldn’t be able to sustain national league rugby if you didn’t approach it as one club.

“The first team players will be training this week to help prepare the seconds for their play-off match. One of the first things we did is get everyone training on the same night and split into players of the same abilities.

“Everyone pays their subs and wears the shirt, so they all have the right to benefit from our coaching or come to us to ask questions.

“Also this way we can keep an eye on the young lads in the threes and move them up into the seconds and eventually the firsts. And with the rotation system that we have played this season there have been eight first team players turning out for the seconds as we rest players or have a look at others.

“So it has been a whole club effort to win the title this season.

“We are going to get Saturday’s game out of the way, I will then have a couple of days off before we continue our preparations for next season.”
