Colchester Rugby Club’s under-16s have retained the Suffolk Cup for the fourth successive year.

The holders claimed an extremely hard-fought 21-20 victory over Woodbridge, to regain their trophy.

Woodbridge went ahead thanks to a converted try but Parry went over in the corner and then converted from the touchline, to make it 7-7.

Colchester then moved the ball wide from a quickly-taken tap penalty for Cowley to score out wide and Parry again converted superbly.

The second half was a different story though, as Woodbridge applied pressure from the outset.

They scored a converted try to make it 14-14 and added two well-struck penalties, which were scant reward for their dominance.

But Colchester’s resilience paid off when with less than five minutes to go, their backs created space.

McAllister ran a great line to slice through and score under the posts and Parry converted, to seal Colchester’s win.

Colchester’s under-14 Ravens have also claimed some silverware, after beating Woodbridge 21-15 in their Suffolk Cup final.

Both teams went into the final unbeaten and matched each other in ability, desire and passion.

Bull drove over to score for an early Colchester try and Bacon converted the additional two points, for 7-0.

But soon after the restart, Woodbridge capitalised on two penalties deep in the home half to drive over and reduce the lead to a point.

Boone outpaced his opposite man on the outside and stepped inside to score a converted try for Colchester, following a maul.

A resurgent Woodbridge started the second half well and despite resolute tackling, Colchester conceded an early score.

Woodbridge then followed this with another penalty after using their numbers out wide, to take a one-point lead.

But with four minutes remaining, Tyler stretched his legs and outpaced the cover defence to touch down under the posts for the Ravens.

And Bacon maintained his 100 per cent kicking record, to secure the extra two points.

Colchester’s Colts development side won 54-5 at Stowmarket but the under-13s lost 27-5 to Wymondham.

Colchester’s under-16 B side ran out 31-19 winners over the club’s under-15 A side.

Colchester’s under-16 C team beat their Clacton counterparts 15-5, thanks to tries from Scott Adams, Will Goodwin and Luke Beattie.

But Colchester’s under-15 B team lost 46-12 against Hadleigh.
