COLCHESTER RUFC head coach Anthony O’Riordan is taking nothing for granted.

Tomorrow the London League division one north leaders entertain ninth-placed Luton at Mill Road.

And O’Riordan is expecting a tough match against the side they beat 37-18 earlier in the season.

Colchester have already made a winning start to 2015 with a 35-0 bonus point win at Ipswich last weekend.

However, they were held to a 0-0 scoreline at half-time.

O’Riordan said: “Partly conditions were to blame but there were also some refereeing decisions, for both sides, that affected our performance.

“I think we had 22 penalties against us in 40 minutes to Ipswich’s two.

“And it is very difficult to play a game if you are going backwards ten metres all the time.

“That being said I was very impressed with our defence.

“I think we have the best defence in the league and to soak up all that pressure in the first half without conceeding a point is commendable.

“I think we showed composure and discipline in defence throughout the side.

“And we looked comfortable without the ball as well.

“I think we have changed our mentality in that we expect to score every time that we have the ball in hand.

“And that’s a change from last season. We can now control the game with the ball and not have to push for the score.”

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s game against Luton, O’Riordan has done his homework.

He said: “It will be a tough game.

“We don’t underestimate anybody in this division.

“We will select the best team possible from the 40 to 60 players who come down for training.

“We are quite lucky in the resources and the technology we have at the club and are able to video our games.

“We have been through the video from our match against Luton earlier in the season.

“I think we are a much more mature side than we were back then.

“And we believe we have analysed areas in Luton’s game which we can exploit.”
