Clacton produced a brave, solid performance but failed to get the luck on the day to see them through their bottom-of-the-table clash against Wapping, losing 2-0 in division three of the East Men's League.

The Seasiders started the day third from bottom with Wapping two points behind, and other teams within three points above them.

Clacton started well, with the home side struggling to get out of their own half.

Francis Sanderson and James Mead were good assets to the Seasiders' midfield, with Jamie Roberts commanding his area, and, once again, Clacton's man-of-the-match was Densil Donovan.

Up front, Rob Lukey and Alex Mortimer worked tirelessly to hassle the home team and earn valuable free hits in the last third.

Clacton had their chances and captain Carl Parkes saw his well-struck short-corner fire off the keeper's helmet and away to safety.

Roberts and Sanderson fired in some good balls that failed to find anyone poaching around the posts.

In defence, Clacton were solid and, together with Gavin Underhay, John Hambrook and Colin Hook got the better of their opponents. With Underhay charging down the home side's short corners, it looked like the game was heading to a 0-0 draw.

That would have kept the Seasiders above Wapping, but it wasn't to be.

Wapping got their breakthrough with seven minutes to go when they reacted quicker to a bobbling ball in the circle to poke home past Mike Key in the Clacton goal.

With the Seasiders needing to find an equaliser, they pushed players forward.

Donovan split the defence with a pass to the progressing Parkes, but Parkes just failed to reach the ball with only the keeper in front of him.

Donovan also saw his short-corner strike reach the back of the goal but the ball was correctly ruled too high. Wapping sealed their victory with a second with Mike Key stranded, due to Clacton committing players in search of a goal.

The results leave Clacton second from bottom with one game remaining.

On Saturday, Clacton finish the season with a home game against Brentwood, looking to have a big crowd to cheer them on in a must win game at Clacton Leisure Centre (2pm).
