Braintree 2 Watton 3 NE14HOCKEY East Women's League division 1N In Braintree's last home game of the season they played a very strong Watton side who showed why they are near the top of the table.

Despite the difference in league positions the game was very close right up until the final whistle and Braintree could so easily have drawn the game.

Braintree took the lead early in the match when a shot from Emma Muir was deflected into the goal by Julie Hayhow.

The home side battled hard to keep their advantage up to half-time but were put under a lot of pressure from Watton who won themselves a string of short corners and their pressure finally gave way to an equalising goal.

Watton took the lead shortly after half-time but Braintree kept themselves in the game with some good attacking play and levelled the scores at two a piece when some good work by Julie Hayhow in the D led to a penalty flick, which Katherine Abbie converted.

Braintree thought they were going to hold out for a deserved point but Watton took all three with about five minutes remaining when they opened up the Braintree defence and scored their winner.

Braintree, safe from relegation, now face City of Peterborough in their final game of the season.
