Whitnell faces Joburg Open test

DALE Whitnell is back on course alongside the cream of Europe’s golfing talent.

The 21-year-old from Tiptree is getting ready to tee off on his return to the PGA European Tour at the Joburg Open at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club in South Africa.

Having impressed on his previous two entries into events on Europe’s premier golfing tour, including a joint fourth-placed finish at the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek in South Africa, in December, the former Walker Cup star received a sponsors’ invite to the latest tournament.

The Johannesburg competition begins today and Whitnell knows he will have to keep performing well to make sure he can keep receiving invites to events this year as he bids to win a fully qualified place on the PGA European Tour in 2011.
