Daniel Clementson took division one in the monthly medal with an incredible nett 61 at Colchester Golf Club.

Playing off an 11 handicap, Clementson made few mistakes in constructing a round of 72 gross on a blustery day with heavy showers intermingled with sunshine.

The conditions were not easy, but his score was six shots better than second-placed Robert George, the junior captain, who returned a nett 67 from his four handicap.

In third place was recently-joined member Stuart Watson (10) and in fourth, after a countback, was Jack English (2) as both returned 68 nett.

English had the lowest gross of the day with his level par round of 70.

In division two, Russell Jervis (18) produced a solid round to return a nett 68, one ahead of Richard Shackell (16) in second, who was a shot ahead of Glenn Sibbons’ (13) nett 70.

Liz Duthie put in an excellent round to take the ladies’ Morton Trophy with a score of plus two.

Playing off 24, Duthie made few mistakes in recording her score, while second place went to Janet Wilson (29) with a score of plus one as she beat Doreen Friedlander into third place.

Fourth place was also decided after a countback with Daphne Bloomfield (22) just beating Caroline Bachelor (28), with both returning level scores.
