PLAYGOLF Colchester's Seniors turned out in good numbers to play for the Huggins Putter Trophy.

Although the course conditions were excellent, none of the players recorded a par round or better.

However, the competition was close with the top three places needing countback to separate them.

Cliff Sturley (28) topped the quartet on 35 points to lift the trophy and continue his fine run of form,in his first season of golf.

Anthony Nudds (28) was runner-up while in third place was William Elder (13), who also carded the best gross of the day.

Alan Burke (18) missed out on the podium places but his birdie on the par-three third hole was the only one of the day, earning him a sleeve of balls.

Playgolf’s Ladies Section took to the course to compete in the 2018 All Winners Trophy.

The strokeplay competition was keenly contested by all 2017 competition winners.

Lucy Sadler recorded a fantastic nett 69 to earn top place on the podium and a handicap cut of one stroke.

Second and third places were closely contested by Shirley Birkin and Paula Smith.

Each carded nett 73, with the countback going in Birkin’s favour.

Linda Smith snatched fourth from Sue Patrick on countback.

Playgolf Colchester hosted a newly-introduced Spring Trophy, for the All Winners Trophy's non-qualifiers.

The stableford format competition was won by Liz Schultz, with a score of 31 points.

The Playgolf pairing of Ann Longman and Nicky Withycombe progressed to round four of the Daily Mail Foursomes.

They beat Julie Race and Diane Wyatt 3&1 at Braintree GC.
