SAM Jackson and Arian Masud were triumphant in the Scratch Foursomes, at Colchester Golf Club.

With a gross score of 77, they were able to keep themselves clear of a chasing pack headed by three pairs all on a gross 78.

Jackson (nine) and Masud (eight) had a very iffy start, but their back nine was very impressive.

Returning a gross of 33 for the last nine holes in winter conditions was a notable achievement.

In this score were two birdies, a bogey and six pars belying their handicaps.

Adjudged second after the countback were another pair of juniors, two and four handicappers Josh Coleman and Max Maynard.

After a countback using the back nine holes, their halves of 41 and 37 was better than the third pairing of Richard Withnall (3) and James Angel (3), who recorded 40 and 38.

In fourth spot with consistent halves of 39 and 39 were John Blackmore (3) and Nathan Howe (1).

The ladies are having no luck with their Tuesday matches after their golf was cancelled on two consecutive Tuesdays, due to the weather.

The Cystic Fibrosis Stableford is due to be played this weekend, with more than 110 names on the start sheet.

Ben and Joe Williams are the final pairing into the Winter League semi-finals after beating Glenn Sibbons and Paul Jackson.

They will now play Simon Rippingale and Mike Mays, for a place in the final.
