THE team of Dave Gooding, Sam Durrant and Richard Swindells carded the winning round in Playgolf Colchester's Texas Scramble.

The popular winter-format competition saw a large field competing with strong competition, with all finishing teams beating par.

Gooding, Durrant and Swindells combined well to manage their five drives each, playing some outstanding golf to win by a stretch.

They made a shaky start, with a sting of wayward shots leading to bogey on the straight forward par-five second.

But the team settled after that and started to complement each other’s game.

Durrant and Swindells’ combined well with Gooding to put a run of four straight birdies together from six to nine, finishing the front nine three under par. The back nine saw a succession of unconverted birdie chances and saving par putts, until Gooding holed a scything 15-foot downhill hiller for birdie on the tricky 13th.

Swindells did similar on 15 and that left them five under gross 65, where their score finished to give a nett score of 60.3.

The team of Roger Giles, Elias and Anreas Fantousi carded nett 61.7 to finish as runners-up.

James Wills, Glen Saunders and Steve Ainley carded nett 62.9, to take third place.

Playgolf Seniors played a stableford competition, run as a non-qualifier with a good amount of entries.

Will Elder (13) won division one with 34 points from runner-up Peter Saye (15) on 30 points and third Jeff Coles (16) on 29 points.

Division two was won by newcomer Shaun Evans (24) with 33 points, followed by senior captain, Steve Dale (24) in second on 32 points.

Robert Few (25) finished third, on 31 points.

Will Elder and Trevor Cocksedge received a sleeve of balls each for achieving par-three birdies.

Difficult weather conditions did not prevent a reasonably large number taking to the course in the Ladies February Stableford competition.

Jeanette Shea took top spot on countback from Gina Macmillan in division one, after both carded 30 points.

Linda Smith was just one point off the pace, on 29 points.

Division two also required countback to separate first and second places, with Linda Marshall pipping Pauline Jordan after both players carded 25 points.

Emma Rowe was one adrift in third, on 24 points.

Playgolf duo Ann Longman and Nicky Withycombe progressed to round two of the Daily Mail Foursomes after a very tough home match against Clacton’s Laura Forder and Kath Sinnot.

Having to give away ten shots, the Playgolf pair won the day at the 19th hole.
