PAUL Addison produced an excellent round to win Playgolf Colchester's division one stableford competition.

Addison (eight) hit a superb eight pars and three front-nine birdies, to card 37 points.

Jon Tait (10) carded 36 points to take second place with five pars and an impressive three birdies.

Richard Swindells (9) scored 33 points to take a three-way countback decision with a heaven or hell 20-point back nine.

His card included a pair of back-nine blobs and was helped no end by a five-point backspin eagle on the tricky 11th hole.

Swindells beat Mick Seaman (nine) in fourth and Steve Loran (tenth) in fifth, after they all carded 33 points.

Richard Frost (16) carded 38 points, scoring five pars and a pair of birdies, including a par-three two, to beat Ivan Southernwood (17) on countback in division two.

Southernwood's card highlights were a very consistent eight pars and par-three birdie.

James Wills (15) carded six pars for 36 points, to take third place.

Trevor Hollingsworth (18) carded 40 points to win division three from Brian Williams, on 37 points.

John Frost was third on countback from David Garner (26) and Miguel Ruiz (19), after they all carded 32 points.

The good course conditions and receptive greens rewarded those able to hit the greens with any spin.

And the putting surfaces proved quick for the time of year.

Playgolf Seniors turned out in good numbers in cold weather but good course conditions.

Scores were low considering bunkers were GUR (Ground Under Repair), making this competition a non-qualifier.

The only player to record a par round was division one winner Trevor Cocksedge with his gross score of 83, to finish with 36 stableford points.

Alan Burke scored with 33 points to take second place, beating Will Elder into third place on countback.

Division two was won by ex-captain Colin Green, with 33 points.

Shaun Evans was second on 32 points, a point ahead of third-placed Des McCarron.

Peter Evans and Bob Price won a sleeve of balls for par-three birdies.

A sprinkling of early morning snow did not deter the Playgolf Ladies from playing their monthly medal competition.

A good-sized field braved the harsh cold with some returning good scores.

In division one, Lucy Sadler took first place in division one on countback from Ann Longman, after both players carded a two-under par nett 68.

Gina Macmillan was third on nett 75 with Shirley Birkin victorious in division two.

She carded a very respectable nett 73 ahead of second-placed Janet Blackmore (nett 75).

Maureen Dale took third on countback from Liz Schultz, after both carded nett 76.
