DARREN Kerr and Mick Farr were clear winners in Playgolf Colchester's four-ball better-ball competition.

The pair were buoyant in the large field and plotted their route in expert fashion, taking advantage of the receptive greens and good roll on offer.

They saw their laser-precision approach and short-game rewarded with multiple birdie chances, many of which they duly converted.

The pair went on to amass an amazing 46 points to take the victory by a stretch in good course conditions.

Understandably, the green staff took the decision to make all bunkers Ground Under Repair (GUR) for the day, as the recent extreme wet weather and the horrendous weather on the day took its toll.

Trevor Hollingsworth and John Chaplin carded a great back nine to take second place.

They were runners-up on countback from Gavin Miklaucich and Alan Pearman, after both pairs carded 43 points.

Playgolf Colchester Seniors played a stableford event in very wet weather, meaning that all bunkers were GUR.

Brian Banks won division one on countback from Peter Saye after both players carded 30 points.

Derek Manister was third, on 29 points.

Division two was won by the ever-improving David Palmer, with 34 points.

Bob Price was runner-up after recording 32 points, three points ahead of third-placed John Cashman (29 points).

There were two winners of a sleeve of balls for birdies on par three.

Brian Banks secured a birdie on the third, while Bernie Keyes chalked up a birdie on the 16th.
