JACK Moutell warmed up for the Junior European Open by winning Playgolf Colchester Medal.

The six-handicapper, who contests the Open in Spain on Saturday, carded a gross 74 (nett 68) to see off the challenge of a large field of competitors.

The youngster's card highlights were 12 pars and back-to-back birdies including a par-three two, as he made the most of great course conditions.

There was some solid golf played in general, with some excellent scores produced.

Trevor Barnett (12) was second on gross 81 (nett 69) with card highlights of nine pars.

Paul Addison (8) was third by a shot from Darren Kerr (9) with his gross 78 (nett 70) carding ten pars and a par-four birdie.

Division two saw Matt Clarke (17) card an unassailable nett 67, consisting of six pars and amazing three front-nine birdies, including a par-three two. Peter Quilty (17) carded five pars to take second place with his nett 72.

Lee Whitten (16) pushed out John Robertson (17) on countback, after both carded nett 73.

Scott Clarke (26) edged out David Evans by a shot by shooting nett 66 and nett 67 respectively.

Clarke carded a creditable six pars and receives a two-shot playing handicap reduction, with Evans carding three pars and receiving a shot reduction. Roger Giles completed the podium places with his nett 68 to take third place, including three pars and a par-four birdie.

Playgolf Colchester's Ann Longman achieved her first ever hole-in-one in a ladies away day at Birch Grove GC.

She achieved the milestone on the par three third hole and also won a prize for the lowest front-nine score, with nett 30.

Other prizes went to Gina Macmillan for her back-nine stableford score of 22 points, while Ruth Amoss and Rosalind Scott won two nearest the pin prizes.

A large field competed in the ladies’ stableford competition, with some respectable scores recorded.

Sally Pettitt won division one with her nett 36 points, with Gina Macmillan two shots back on nett 34.

Third place needed countback to separate second-placed Linda Smith and Ann Longman in third, after both players carded 30 points.

Pauline Jordan won division two with her 34 points fending off runner-up Lynne Southgate, who was one point off the pace.

Shirley Birkin was third on countback from Carla Holroyd, with both players returning 31 points.

A large field turned out for the Playgolf Seniors' Memorial Shield.

A very close finish resulted in Trevor Cocksedge (14) winning the trophy, presented by long-standing sponsor and guest player Dave Needham. Cocksedge’s nett 68 was one shot better than second-placed Steve Loran (11) on nett 69, with both players receiving a one-shot reduction in their playing handicaps.

Loran also had the best gross of the day with gross 82, while Harry Eels (28) was third on countback from Brian Banks after both carded nett 69.

Trevor Cocksedge, Alan Cole and Will Elder recorded birdie twos on par-three holes, to each receive a sleeve of balls.
