AN OUTSTANDING score helped trio Conor Garvey, Jack Blackman and Josh Stephenson land Playgolf Colchester's Texas Scramble.

They carded an impressive score of 60.9 in good course conditions, which saw the field enjoy some target golf.

Accurate approach play was rewarded with the additional scoring opportunities afforded with the scramble format.

Scott Hughes, Jonty Rhodes and John Robertson were second with 61.1, with Shaun Evans, Paul Addison and Ivan Southernwood third on countback from Brian Williams, Mark Pidgeley and Aidie Freer, after both carded 62.1.

A large number of Playgolf ladies took to the course to contest the Withycombe Cup stroke play format competition.

Some excellent scores were returned, with Paula Smith winning after carding a fantastic nett 65.

It was five-under the Competition Scratch Score (CSS), earning her a two-shot handicap cut.

Smith’s nearest rival, Jeanette Shea, was second with an impressive nett 68 to also earn a handicap cut while Gina Macmillan was third with nett 70.

Ann Longman won division one of the October Stableford with an outstanding 42 points, securing a handicap reduction to 17.

Lucy Sadler was second with 34 points, two points ahead of third-placed Gina Macmilan.

Division two saw Emma Rowe win with 33 points, a point clear of second-placed Rosalind Scott and Pauline Coxon (31 points) who was third.

The final round of the Playgolf seniors masters competition was played, with the coveted green jacket at stake.

The event is played over three rounds, with the final third round seeing the top 15 players, plus ties, compete for the title.

When all the players were in, Steve Loran (11) maintained his consistency over the three rounds to claim the title with his nett scores of 67+71+72 for a winning total of 210.

Loran finished three shots ahead of second-placed Jeff Coles with nett scores of 73+72+68 to total 213.

Dave Ruxton was third with nett 67+79+69 giving 215 nett.

The second round had earlier seen new leaders with Ken Ellsmore (25) greatly improving on his initial round, posting an outstanding score of nett 63.

Terry Pettit (21) followed closely with a creditable score of nett 65 and Bernard Keyes was two shots back, on nett 67.

It set the stage for an exciting third round, which again saw sub par rounds with Jeff Coles (17) leading on nett 68.

Dave Ruxton was a shot behind on nett 69 on countback from Will Elder (13).

Those not making the cut after the first two rounds entered the non-qualifiers stableford competition.

Colin Green (28) won with a great score of 40 points, earning him a one-shot handicap reduction.

Len Cole (23) was second on 38 points ahead of Stephen Peeling (17), who was third on countback from John Eade (22) after the pair carded 36 points.
