STOKE by Nayland Golf Club defeated holders Crondon Park to lift the Jubilee Cup.

They won 5½-3½ on points at Canonsbrook Golf Club to win the competition, contested by players who have not featured in the Thornton Cup or the Leslie F Wood Championship county competitions.

The morning singles matches proved to be very tight, with three wins for each club.

The Stoke by Nayland winners were Dean Brace, Mark Chaplin and Ian Benson.

That meant that the outcome of the final depended on the three afternoon-paired matches.

After nine holes, Stoke were down in all the matches and it took a great deal of resilience and determination for the six players to fight back.

But wins for Guy Holland and Keith Hodgson, Luke Bennett and Liam Worsdell and a halved match by Steve Evans and John Sandford saw them lift the trophy.

The cup was presented to Stoke by Nayland captain Richard Bland, who praised Crondon Park for an excellent match and thanked Canonsbrook Golf Club for their hospitality, along with hailing his team and their caddies.
