COLCHESTER Golf Club assistant secretary Lottie Whyman played a key role in Suffolk securing third place in the English Women's County Championship, at Felixstowe Ferry.

Whyman, who did not taste defeat in winning her Eastern Region Championship qualifier after winning nine and halving one in the six county event, is also a Colchester member but plays her competitive golf in Suffolk.

Her record in the final was not quite as startling but three singles wins, including one against the eventual champions Yorkshire and two in the foursomes was an impressive achievement.

Roger Wright won the Mersea Bowl, which is the club’s 2017 Order of Merit.

After winning the Cooper Bland, he was placed in the top ten on seven other occasions after playing in 16 qualifying competitions throughout the year.

Wright was also narrowly defeated in the Braiswick Cup final.

Gillian Whittle returned a nett 71 to win Colchester GC Ladies' English Golf Union (EGU) Medal.

Whittle, playing off 31, saw off her nearest rival Maureen Devenish (16) who returned a nett 75 on a day that proved tough for the golfers.

Daphne Bloomfield (31) and Joy Bevan (33) completed the major placings, with nett 76s.

Colchester GC's Junior team progressed to the Royal British Legion Junior Golf Challenge semi-finals after winning at Dartford.

The Junior Golf Challenge is a season-long knockout tournament for clubs throughout the country.

Colchester’s strongest pair of Dan Nicholls and Cai James lost on the last but Max Maynard and Charley Hatley won by six holes, to secure the win.

Colchester GC hosted the county better-ball pairs Mullis Trophy competition.

Crondon Park Golf Club duo Bill Beard (17) and Roger Clover (14) returned 44 points to win outright.

Colchester pairing of Ralph Charles (12) and Robert Svensson (13) finished 15th out of 34 pairings, with 39 points.
