SOME startling golf helped Julian Munson win Colchester Golf Club’s Moy Cup.

Playing off his 11 handicap, Munson returned a score of plus five to claim victory in the major boarded bogey format competition.

Munson started with a birdie, which he then repeated on the 11th and the 14th.

He played excellent golf and without finishing doubles on the 17th and 18th where the pressure may well have told, he could have been arrested.

Daniel Harness (14) on plus three just crept ahead of Stephen Bozier (11) to finish as runner-up on countback.

Robert Svensson (15) returned plus two claimed fourth spot while on plus one came a phalanx of seven golfers.

They were led by Barry Haley (12) followed by Joe Jackson (11), Andrew Jones (22), Shaun Holmes (10), Patrick Logan (15), Stuart Fisher (12), John Redden (seven).

The Moy Cup is one of Colchester GC's oldest competitions and was first played for 107 years ago.

Colchester GC's ladies held their Autumn Meeting on a tricky course, with Marilyn Free winning the day from 32 handicap.

Her score of 35 points was four ahead of the next best score from Liz Lennox (18) and Liz Duthie (22), who both returned 31 points.

With scores of 30 points were four ladies led after the countback by Janet Austin (23), Cathy Burchell (10), Jane Lochore (22) and Mandy Rix (7).

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Marilyn Wood on the eighth and Jenny Jardine, on the 16th.

After lunch, a three ball Stableford team game was played where on holes one to ten, Carol Irvine, Liz Reid and Vicky Frost scored 41 points.

They beat Joan Cottrell, Janet Tebbutt and Cathy Burchell, who returned 38.

On holes 11 to 18, Daphne Bloomfield, Maureen Devenish and Alison Cordran won out over Jane Madge, Gill Minns and Penny Fairs after scoring 30-29.

Charlie Allison won the Juniors Autumn Stableford with 39 points, from his 19 handicap.

Second was Josh Coleman (3) with 32, with 23-handicapper Romy Bozier posting the same score alongside him.

In fourth spot was 12-handicapper Micah Blowers.

In a walk-on-stableford, Scott Vass scored 39 points off his 12 handicap while Tom Allison, playing off five, returned 37.
