SRC Aggregates claimed victory in Colchester Golf Club's annual Pro-Am competition, at the Braiswick course.

The team, manned by Darren Tucker, Dave Reeve and Paul Springall and steered by Three Rivers professional James Webber, won with an impressive score of 19 under par.

Steady golf is always the key to a winning team and Webber added the gloss with five birdies and an eagle.

The CGC Juniors team of Louisa Storey, Dan Nicholls and Sam Jackson with pro Steve Hambling (Braintree) finished as runners-up and one behind.

In third place on 16 under was the BC Designs team of Barrie Cutchie, Phil Clarke and Keith Newnham.

Their pro was Colchester’s joint Head Professional, Chris Cutchie.

James Scade, representing Little Channels, took the professional prize after carding a five-under-par 65 to win.

The event, now in its 30th year, was praised for its quality and standard of the course, with Keith Chinnery and his team congratulated.

At total of 48 golfers competed for a share of the prize-pot and Scade eased past them all.

Despite two bogeys, his seven birdies made him a comfortable winner.

Nick Cains, representing Swaffham and Ray Russell (Centurion Club), shared second place after both returning 67s, just one ahead of four players sharing fourth position.

The quartet were Three Rivers’ David Salisbury; Ian Ellis from Great Yarmouth, Murray White and Colchester-based Ben David.

Impressively nearest the pin in two and doubling up was Jamie Scott on the third and the 14th sponsored by Colchester Golf Academy and Salmon Cars.

Steve Parnell was nearest in two on the 11th, sponsored by Potters Plumbing.

Nearest the pin on the par threes was Steve Butler on the four, with Graham Baxter as sponsor.

On the eighth hole, Patrick Logan and on the 16th Lionel Keightley, both prizes being sponsored by Mr Wheeler.

On the 13th, sponsored by Rathgar Properties, was Dave Arnold.

Phil Clarke took the longest drive. with Poundfield Products sponsoring this prize.

Colchester GC's annual Pro-Am competition is now in its 30th year, with the excess proceeds of the event all going to St Helena Hospice.
