COLIN Williams triumphed in the John V. Wright Trophy at Colchester Golf Club with a superb stableford round of 41 points.

Williams, from his 19 handicap, was too good for the chasing pack at the event, contested exclusively by the club’s thriving 100 Club members.

Dennis Brown, 13, was second with 40 points while Roy Darby (14) was third with 39 points.

The first lady past the post, Joan Cotterill (26), was fourth on 38 points while ladies runner-up was Janet Tebbutt who returned 35 points from her 25 handicap.

Third lady home was Gill Minns (17), with 34 points.

The 100 Club has run over the past six years by Dick Jackson, who this year hands over the job to Mike Jones.

During Jackson’s tenure, the 100 Club has raised thousands of pounds for the club’s amenities.

Penny Allen won the ladies Windfall Trophy with her 41 points from a 36 handicap and will now represent Colchester GC next month, at Brentwood GC.

Wendy Smith (24) scored 39 points to finish second while Val Doubleday (28), Annie Johnston (15), Roberta Bodsworth (29) and Cherie Clark (21) all returned 38.

In the Walk-on Stableford, James Angel excelled with a very impressive 40 points from his three handicap.

Lewis Barber (five) was some four points adrift with 36 points, a point ahead of Trevor Hooton (11) and Patrick Logan (16).

Colchester GC’s Vets continue their programme with an excellent win over a strong Ipswich team.

Their 4½-3½ victory gave them an overall record of 12 wins and nine losses, with two matches tied.
