COUNTBACK was needed to decide the winners of Colchester Golf Club's Dick Procter Trophy.

Shaun Holmes and Iain Cruickshank were victorious after sharing their score of 44 points with two other pairs in the competition, where the better ball counted.

Holmes, playing off ten and Cruickshank off eight were placed ahead of Kyle Appleton (16) and Neil Arnold (13), with Russell Storey (14) and Mark Hills (14) the third pair on the top score.

On completion of the players' round Dick Procter’s putter is played for, with the best two putts from three being aggregated.

Mark Culley won with a total distance from the pin for the two putts being 36 centimetres (14 inches) and the length of the putt in the region of 40 feet.

David Harper was a close second with 38cm, while Clive Hebden was third with 45cm.

In the Walk-on-Stableford, Chris Monk (11) took the honours with 41 points.

Jon Potterton (12) was second with 39 and Sam Latta (seven) third with 36 points.

The ladies played for the Peugeot LGU Coronation Foursomes, the LGU’s leading event for club golfers in Great Britain and Ireland.

Established in 1953, the event has become increasingly popular in clubs where the winners qualify for one of 16 Area Finals.

This year Hannah Butcher and Wendy Lodder qualified, winning at the club with a foursomes score of 35 points.

The area final takes place at West Essex Golf Club, in August.

The Vets Section won their friendly against Chelmsford by a score of five matches to three.

They are unbeaten against Chelmsford since the away match, earlier this year.
