ADRIAN Binns managed his round in superb fashion to win Playgolf Colchester's Jubilee Cup.

A large field took part in the cup competition, which was held as one division with a medal format.

Some good winning scores were posted on a superb course, in good weather conditions evident.

The course is displaying its summer-links colours, so course management is essential.

Binns (ten) beat Dave Wills (17) to pole position to earn a shot handicap cut and finish first on countback.

Binns carded the joint lowest gross round of 76 (nett 66), which consisted of nine pars and two front-nine birdies.

Wills, unlucky not to win outright, also earned a shot handicap cut for second place with his card highlights including ten pars.

Countback was needed to decide third place, with Mehendra Gurung (14) in third and Ken Todd (19) in fourth, after both carded nett 68.

Gurung also received a shot handicap cut after finishing third, with some solid putting numbers to card eight pars.

Rob Wareing added to his already impressive order of merit tally with another lowest gross round (joint with Adrian Binns) of gross 76.

Wareing recovered well after a double-bogey start, going on to card eight pars and a trio of birdies.

Will Elder was in fine form, carding 40 points to win division one of the seniors stableford.

Elder was chased hard by the impressive Jeremy Dalton on 37 points while the consistent John Edgell was third, with 35 points.

Division two saw an ever-improving John Curd win with 34 points ahead of runner-up Colin Green with 31 points and Stewart Loftus who was third with 29 points.

Par-three two winners were Alan Burke and James Sealey.

Playgolf narrowly lost out in the Leslie Wood Cup, losing 8.5-6-5 at an impressive Orsett GC team.

Playgolf progressed to the second round of the Thornton Cup plate competition after Chingford gave the tie to Playgolf.
