STEPHEN Allen and Trevor Barnett have progressed to the Playgolf Colchester International Pairs better-ball regional qualifiers.

They used their shots to the maximum to steadily plot their way around and record a score of 47 points to win their qualifier.

Sam Durrant and Matthew Barnett were runners-up on countback from Gary Mcllwain and James Barningham, after both teams carded 43 points.

Playgolf Colchester's Leslie Wood team got their season off to a superb start with an outstanding 11-4 home victory over Colchester GC.

Colchester brought a strong team but the Playgolf team used their home advantage to the maximum.

They posted an outstanding morning doubles score, dropping just half a point to go 4.5-0.5 up.

Two outstanding home scores came from the pairs of Richard Schultz and Simon Longman, who posted a superb 9&7 win.

Alister Baily and Steve Loran won 6&5.

With a commanding lead going in to the afternoon singles, the final score was still in the balance against a strong, lower handicapped Colchester side. However, any early home nerves were channelled in a positive fashion, with Sam Bollen posting an early point (3&2) following up from Steve Johnson winning (4&2) and Richard Schultz (5&4).

Simon Longman won one-up, Rory Wilson took a half point, Steve Loran won 4&3 and Alister Bailey completed the Playgolf scoring 2&1.

That helped Playgolf come out on top of the afternoon singles, 6.5-3.5.

Captain, Richard Frost said: “What a superb effort from the team, they took the task to hand and showed a lot of fight.

Thanks to Colchester for turning up and playing in a superb spirit.”

Jim Greenfield recorded 36 points to win division one of Playgolf Colchester's seniors stableford.

Tony Millington was runner-up with 33 points from David Ruxton (32 points).

Bob Price won division two with 36 points from Robert Few (31 points), on countback from John Curd.

In the Juniors Easter Medal stableford competition, Harry English showed the rest of the field a clean pair of heels to win with a quality 44 points.

He also receives a handicap cut to 23.

Jack Moutell (seven) was second with 36 points, ahead of Sam Rahmanpour who finished third.
