THE last week marked the end of one season and the start of a new one at Burnham on Crouch Golf Club.

Thirty-six pairs started in the Men’s Winter league and it was now down to just two.

The final proved to be as exciting as the semi-finals.

The pairs of Tony Wilkin and James Marchant and Andy and Ryan Davies were set for a battle royale.

It was all square coming to the last with Marchant and Davies having shots up the last.

Both scored five for two points leaving it all down to countback.

Forty points each and Wilkin and Marchant won with a back nine score of 21 and were declared Winter League champions.

Fifteen pairs started in the Mixed Winter League but the final was between the pairings of Cally Fearn and Dan Munro and Dean Bewers and Denise Howat.

Bewers and Howat were one up at the turn but they then went on a four-hole spree to close it out on the 15th green, winning 5&3.

Last Monday saw the fourth of the five rounds of the Seniors Arthur West Winter League, Champions League stage.

Bob Willett ensured victory in the competition by recording another first place.

Stephen Hull, one of his closest rivals, ran him close, however, but with both of them finishing on 35 points it was Willett who won on count back and gained another 12 points he has an unassailable lead.

Hull was confirmed as runner-up.

For the men on Saturday it was The Grouse Foursomes and with a shotgun start the course was full.
