THE Playgolf Colchester members turned out in good numbers on Sunday to compete for the first boarded competition of the year in the medal format, Spring Cup.

Juniors Connor Garvey and Jonathan Tait featured again in the top three.

In-form Garvey (18) took the spoils and earned the right to have his name on the Spring Cup board with his winning score of nett 68.

His round highlights included seven pars and his two under nett score sees him earn another shot handicap reduction next time out.

Garvey narrowly pipped long-time clubhouse leader Roger Giles (20) and Tait (18) after both carded nett 69 and needed countback to separate them.

Giles was at the top of the field for the majority of the round and he earned a shot handicap reduction to 19 and took the countback decision for second place.

His round highlights were a brace of pars and pair of crucial par-four birdies on the eighth and 18th holes.

Third-placed Tait (18) had a solid round, including five pars and a pair of birdies coming on the par three third and par four 15th.
