THE Playgolf Colchester members turned out in force to support the junior section by raising much-needed funds.

The day was set as a team competition with the best two scores counting on each hole.

With the team format set, scores were bound to be high and that form stood true when all the totals were in.

The juniors featured heavily in the top teams with two in the winning team, with juniors Jonathan Tait and Connor Garvey teaming up with Peter Moutell to amass an astounding 91 points, averaging five points per hole.

Another junior member played a great game to help take second place when father and son duo James and Mason Barningham teamed up with Gary McLlwaine to record an impressive 85 points.

The third-placed team of Tom English, Ron Gilzean and Adrian Binns carded 83 to wrap up the podium positions.

The Playgolf ladies hosted local rivals Colchester in the Daily Mail classic competition.

Playgolf won against a much stronger Colchester side, four games to one.

Nicky Withycombe led the team out and won her tie 3&1, Lucy Sadler also won 3&1, Gina Macmilan won 7&6 and the team’s anchor-player, Ann Longman won 4&3.

Kyung Cho won division one of the ladies’ stableford, carding 34 points in tricky weather conditions.

Lucy Sadler was second with 32 points from third-placed Gina Macmillan, who carded 29 points.

Shirley Birkin won division two with 31 points, from Catherine Le Tue on 27 points and Joka Fayers on 26 points.

The senior’s pairs stableford competition saw both scores count towards the team total.

The scoring was generally low, but Bruce Poole and Adrian Beckingsale took third place with 61 points.

Vice-captain Michael Johnson and Brian Hart were clubhouse leaders for most of the competition, but finished in second place after an outstanding performance coming from winners Trevor Cocksedge and partner Jerry Dalton.

They played some excellent golf to card 73 points, winning by 11.
