SCOTT Wyatt and Ben Jay carded an impressive 45 points to claim a narrow victory in Playgolf Colchester’s Four Seasons Cup opener.

They finished a point ahead of runners-up Martin Kilbey and Nathan Soton, after they registered 44 points in the four-ball-better-ball format.

Junior members Edward Quilty and Tom Gale carded a solid total of 43 points at the event, where competitors take part in a different pairs format in each round.

There was a good-sized turnout for the event, which was played out in frosty conditions.

The main greens performed well and were more favourable for the later groups, with the winning scores coming from the middle of the pack.

Players receive individual points depending on where teams finish, with ten points awarded to the winners down to one point for tenth place.

The better-ball format saw each competitor play off ¾ of their usual handicap, with the best score of the two recorded for the team total.

Testing conditions led to quite a low-scoring February stableford competition for Playgolf Colchester’s ladies’ section.

Kyung Cho managed a very creditable 31 points to win division one, finishing five points ahead of runner-up Rose Cole (26).

Sue Patrick carded 25 points, to take third spot.

Shirley Birkin won division two with 26 points, finishing four points ahead of closest rival, Pauline Jordan (22).

Lucy Sadler was third after finishing a further point adrift on 21.
