Clinton Morrison bagged his first-ever Colchester United goal – and then vowed to ensure that it is the first of many.
Morrison got off the mark for the U’s by heading their equaliser in their 1-1 draw against Sheffield United.
It was the experienced striker’s first goal since his summer move from Sheffield Wednesday and he is keen to hit the net with regularity this season.
Morrison said: “Colchester is my bread and butter and I want to do well for them.
“I’m here to score goals and that’s what I want to do and get us up the table.
“I would have taken the goal however it came and hopefully it can push me on now and I can go on and score more.”
Former Owls player Morrison received verbal abuse from the Sheffield United fans throughout the game, at the Weston Homes Community Stadium .
It prompted him to run more than 60 yards to celebrate in front of the travelling fans but Morrison put it all down to friendly banter.
“When people are abusing me, I’m not a player who’ll just walk back to the halfway line,” said the former Crystal Palace and Birmingham City forward.
“I wanted to give them something back but it’s only football at the end of the day.
“That’s what football’s about; you try to entertain fans and I don’t mind getting a bit of stick; hopefully they can take it back!
“Some people will like me and some people won’t but you just have to get on with it.”
