Lord's clash poses wedding dilemma for Manning
10:43am Friday 29th June 2012 in General
MISTLEY’S John Manning has changed his wedding date – to avoid a clash with his side playing at Lord’s.
The skipper is so confident his team will go all the way to the National Village Cup final that he wants to keep September 9 clear.
Mistley are into the national stages of the competition and face their next challenge at Sussex side Findon on Sunday.
They are on a roll, having thrashed Great Waltham by ten wickets in their regional Essex and Suffolk final.
And if they can replicate that form in the coming weeks, Manning sees no reason why they can’t go all the way to Lord’s.
“I can see that happening and, from what I’ve seen and experienced in the competition, I believe we’re as good a village side as you’ll find anywhere in the country,” he said.
“That’s why I had to change the date of my wedding, from September 9 to September 10.
“When I realised the dates clashed, I didn’t want to leave myself facing an agonising decision – to play in the final or get married!
“I couldn’t take that risk.”
Mistley reached the national quarter-finals last season before being eliminated by Rottingdean.
