Manager Brad Quinton felt his Braintree Town team's bravery was rewarded late on in their Vanarama National League South game against Concord Rangers.

The Iron had to come from behind - after Rangers went ahead on 75 minutes with a spectacular Adam Topley strike from 30 yards - to snatch a 2-1 win deep in time added on at the end of the Essex derby.

The hosts drew level on 87 minutes when Dan Thompson prodded the ball in from close range and grabbed a dramatic winner in the 98th minute when Luke Allen fired the ball into the net.

The goal sparked wild celebrations among the home players, staff and fans and manager Brad Quinton apologised if their exuberance was too much, but he was impressed with how his players refused to accept anything less that the three points.

“It was very emotional for everyone and that included me," said Quinton.

“I apologise to the opposite manager, Adam (Flanagan), for the way we celebrated, but we never gave in.

“It was tremendous from my boys because it’s been tough for them this season.

“To go and win it like that was an amazing feeling and you could see that in the celebrations after that late goal.

“We moved the ball very well in the game and our link-up play – the balls through the lines and down the channels – was superb.

“I think I would have needed another pair of hands to count the number of chances we had through the balls that we delivered.

“That was superb, but we spoke at half-time that if we didn’t take our chances, they would take one and that’s the way it worked out.

“Fair play to them, it was a cracking goal.

“But we were brave and got forward from midfield with people taking turns in getting into the box and we moved the ball quicker.

“I know the squad we have is small but they have a tremendous attitude towards being winners and that’s great to watch.

“As a coach and a manager, you can only applaud that."
