THERE was a very close finish and some outstanding scoring at Playgolf Colchester's Texas Scramble.

A large field contested the popular event, with the leading teams carding very low scores in good course conditions and with receptive greens.

Spencer Bond teamed up with brothers Andreas and Christos Fantousi to card the winning score of 58.8.

A mere difference in handicap allowing them to take first place by the narrowest of margins.

The team of Brian Williams, Neil Milburn and Mark Pidgeley finished just 0.1 behind to take second place on 58.9.

Mick Seaman, Sam Durrant and Stephen Allen carded 59.4 to take third place and complete the podium places.

Despite torrential rain the previous day, the course remained in very good condition for the Seniors medal competition.

The greens were appreciably receptive although the bunkers were declared ground under repair.

As a result, there were a number of sub-par rounds with Jeremy Dalton (14) leading the pack in division one with a superb gross 79, nett 65.

He was closely followed by Ron Gilzean (13) who was one stroke adrift on another outstanding score of gross 79, nett 66.

Brian Hart was third place (nett 67).

Division two was headed by Robert Few (25) with a notable 68 nett one-stroke ahead of Stephen Dale (26) on 69 nett, with Bruce Poole third on 70 nett.

Michael Johnson and Trevor Cocksedge each received a sleeve of balls for their birdie twos on the par-three third and long fifth holes respectively.
