SOPHIE Freeman was in outstanding form as Colchester Swimming Club competed at the East Swimming Regional Championships in Norwich.

She was awarded the Don Neale Memorial Trophy for the best overall swimmer at the championships, as the club won the junior category at the East Region event.

Of the various 14 races Freeman competed in at the three-day event, she achieved 13 first places and one second place along with numerous personal bests (PBs).

Colchester SC head coach Michelle Young was very happy with not only the performances at the championships but the swimmers demonstrated throughout the season

Charlotte Norman showed what an outstanding swimmer she is by winning the 200 metres backstroke (two minutes 31.25 seconds), 100m backstroke (1m 11.50s) and 50m backstroke (33.20s).

She was also second in the 400m Individual Medley and 800m freestyle.

Lucy Morgan reached the 50m freestyle final and was 11th in the 400m IM race, while Molly Grieve finished seventh in the 200m butterfly final.

Molly Redgrave was ninth in the 200m backstroke and Niamh Higgins achieved PBs in the 50m butterfly and 100m butterfly.

Rebecca Girolami made the 50m breaststroke final while Anita Tien gained final places in the 100m breaststroke (eighth), 200m IM and the 50m butterfly (fourth).

Annie Bayliss achieved a PB in the 50m breaststroke and Charlotte Tree secured 800m freestyle bronze along with making the 100m breaststroke and 200m breaststroke finals.

Ciara Wookey secured standout results in the 200m butterfly (fifth), 100m breaststroke (fifth), 200m breaststroke (sixth) and 50m breaststroke (fourth), while Ila Nicholson was in excellent form with a PB in the 100m butterfly.

Colchester SC's boys also showed that the hard training had paid off with Louis Walker making the 100m breaststroke final (eighth), while Mark Milburn finished ninth in the 200m breaststroke.

Naythan Aung continued his excellent form with a sensational victory in the 50m backstroke.

He was also third in the 100m backstroke and fifth in both the 200m backstroke and 100m butterfly.

Alfie Francis’s season also continued well with four PBs and Daniel Himsworth clocked a PB in the 50m backstroke, while Kai Cheng was sixth in the 50m backstroke final.
