CAI James produced in an outstanding round of golf to win Colchester Golf Club's Bridgestone-Chase-Your-Dream Medal.

The Wales junior international carded a two under par gross from a three handicap and his nett 65 was enough to secure the win.

James was two under par after nine holes and with his back nine of level par, he was able to sneak ahead of the baying pack.

Second-placed Alan Sharrocks grossed a similar two under but playing off two, he had a 66 nett.

Sharrocks’ second place was only secured after a countback, as Glenn Clark (7) and Paul Smith (11) also returned 66s.

Sharrocks’ round produced two halves of one under par.

He had two bogeys followed by three birdies on the first nine, while his back nine was bogey-free.

Colchester GC's men suffered a home defeat against Stoke-by-Nayland in the Leslie Wood Championship.

After the morning’s foursomes the scores were level at 2½-2½ each, so it came down to the afternoon’s singles.

Of the first five matches, four went in Colchester’s favour but the last five were always leaning towards Stoke.

The last match on the course was between Matt Michaels and Matt King, with the score on a knife-edge at 7½-6½ to Stoke.

It had to go Colchester’s way to enforce a play-off and with their match score level on the 18th, Michaels, after two excellent shots, had set himself up for a ten-foot birdie putt.

King had a wayward drive and a second shot nestling between two bunkers just off the green.

But he then hit a superb chip shot to put himself into range and when Michael’s ten-foot birdie putt just shaved the hole, Stoke claimed an 8-7 win.

Colchester GC's ladies Bronze team played their first match at Burnham-on-Crouch but fell to a 4&3 loss.

Linda Freeman, Vicky Frost and Jane Jones provided Colchester’s wins.

Cassie Cunningham and Louisa Storey were victorious in their county-run Hunter Foursomes competition.

The event sees a senior golfer and a junior golfer play in an inter-club knockout.

They emerged victorious at the 14th with a 6&4 win over their opponents from Little Channels, to whom they had to give 19 shots.
